Revelations 21:8 says liars, too, will find their place in the lake of fire.
- When God commands us not to commit adultery and we justify it, that’s lying.
- When a pastor says to the congregation they are gathered to unite a couple into holy matrimony and the union is not holy, that pastor lies publicly in the name of God.
- Adulterers almost always lie to cover up, then lie to bat away responsibility onto someone suffering--a spouse, children, parents, society, and if they don’t have the backbone to do so directly, they will do so in a backhanded way.
- Some liars will get their children and families to lie for them--”Ringgggg...tell them I’m not home.” “Honey, tell the ticket lady your’re only 8 years old--it’s cheaper” “Let’s tell our moms we were at school studying late.”
- Politicians say, “I’m adamantly pro-family and pro-life” but never take action. It is not a lie to declare one’s commitment and fight diligently and be overcome, but to state one is pro-life and pro-family and allow atrocities to continue for years without a challenge is the act of a self-serving liar. That goes for pastors and lay people as well.
- People say they are pro-family, but they give more money to the entertainment industry to wreck marriages than to marriage ministries like this. Much more. Hundreds and thousands more. They pay to educate others in the excitement of adultery but will not pay the cost of one movie to help save marriages. Ever.
Lying destroys trust, and rightfully so. No person who lies should be trusted.
Lying destroys communication. The only thing a liar can really communicate is the fact that he is a liar. He does not value truth. He speaks only to accomplish some selfish desire. If he ever speaks the truth, it will only be to obtain something he wants or avoid some pain he is afraid of such as the loss of reputation. But, if he can benefit more from telling a lie and avoid the pain of doing so, he will lie with no concern for his integrity at all.
No person can have Jesus as Lord and continue to lie. And, no person can lie without damaging his or her marriage and relationship with his or her family. That is not being overly judgmental. That is the plain truth.
Commandment 9: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
